Kedarnath – One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva

Kedarnath is one of the most sacred pilgrimage centers in India, situated in the mighty Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. The Kedarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a very important part of the Chota Char Dham Yatra. Thousands of devotees and adventure seekers visit Kedarnath every year.

Kedarnath is located at an elevation of 3,583 meters (11,755 ft) above sea level, flanked by snow-covered mountains and the Mandakini River. The temple has a very significant place in Hindu mythology, as it is believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, who were looking for the blessings of Lord Shiva to redeem themselves after the Kurukshetra war.

✔ Trek (16 km) – By far the most popular route would be from Gaurikund, a really scenic but steep trek through mountains. Ponies, palanquins or palkis, and helicopter services are available as well.

✔ By Helicopter Many operators also offer helicopter service from Phata, Guptkashi, and Sirsi, which reduce the journey into half and relatively easy.

Yamunotri – The origin of River Yamuna

Yamunotri is one of the four scared pilgrimage sites under the Chota Char Dham Yatra located in Uttarakhand. Nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas, Yamunotri is 3,293 meters (10,804 ft) above sea level and dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, from whose holy waters it is said that sins will be cleansed and salvation guaranteed.

The Yamunotri Temple is a beautiful shrine built in black marble, surrounded by snow-covered peaks. It was originally constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. The temple houses a sacred idol of Goddess Yamuna, adorned in yellow garments, signifying her purity and divine presence.

Reaching Yamunotri is an adventurous yet spiritual journey, requiring a combination of road travel and trekking.

✔ By Road: Travelers can drive up to Janki Chatti, which serves as the base camp for the Yamunotri trek.
✔ By Trek (6 km): The trek from Janki Chatti, which is scenic but steep for 6 km, reaches the temple. For those who are not able to trek, there are ponies, palkis, and mules.
 By Helicopter: By helicopters, the easy journey will also be offered, from Dehradun to Yamunotri Helipad at Kharsali.

Gangotri – The sacred source of River Ganga

The sacred origin of the River Ganga, Gangotri is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in India. Located at 3,100 meters (10,200 ft) above sea level in the Garhwal Himalayas, Gangotri is part of the Chota Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. The Gangotri Temple, devoted to Goddess Ganga, welcomes thousands of devotees who visit her shrine seeking her blessings and purifying their souls by bathing in the holy waters.

The Gangotri Temple, made of white granite, was constructed by the Gorkha general Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th century. The temple is a symbol of purity and spirituality and has a beautiful idol of Goddess Ganga. Bhagirathi River flows beside the temple, adding to its divine aura.

✔ By Road: From Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun one can drive to Gangotri town.
✔ By Trek: 
Adventure seekers must take a trek to Gaumukh Glacier, which is 18 km away, the real source of the Ganga.
✔ By Helicopter:
Helicopter service is available from Dehradun to Harsil near Gangotri that covers the journey quicker and comfortably.

Badrinath – A revered temple of Lord Vishnu

Badrinath, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Hinduismlies in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 3,133 meters or 10,279 ft. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Badrinath Temple forms a significant part of the Char Dham Yatra and Chota Char Dham Yatra, attracting thousands of devotees and spiritual seekers every year.

Badrinath is a place steeped deeply in Hindu mythology. Lord Vishnu is believed to have done penance here under a Badri tree (Jujube tree) for thousands of years. His consortGoddess Lakshmi, protected him from bad weather, taking the form of a Badri tree as well. That is why it is called “Badrinath”.

The 
legend is also associated with the Pandavas of the Mahabharata, who are said to have crossed Badrinath on their way to heaven in their final journeyNot only that, Adi Shankaracharya rediscovered the temple in the 8th century, entrenching its religious significance.
